Tony Mitchell claims Dominican Rep. Santiago League Hoops Agents weekly honour- April 8, 2021
The 28-year old forward had a double-double of 21 points and thirteen rebounds, while his team beat GUG (#4, 2-3) 102-88. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. CPN is placed at 3rd position in Dominican Rep. Santiago League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost two games earlier this season. CPN will need more victories to improve their 3-2 record. In the team's last game Mitchell had a remarkable 77.8% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at CPN and just after two games he already turned to be a very valuable addition to the team. University of North Texas graduate has very impressive stats this year. Mitchell is in league's top in points (3rd best: 24.0ppg) and averages solid 1.5bpg and 72.0% FGP. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 26-year old guard Gelvis Solano (185-G-94, agency: BMS Sport Agency) of GUG. Solano impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 22 points and 12 assists. Bad luck as GUG lost that game 88-102 to slightly higher-ranked CPN (#3, 3-2). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. GUG still maintains its place in the top 4 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 2-3 record. Solano is one of the most experienced players at GUG and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.0ppg (#7). His other stats are also decent: 5.8rpg and 10.0apg. The third best performed player last round was American Emmanuel Andujar (198-F-93) of second-ranked Cupes. Andujar showcased his all-around game by recording 24 points, fifteen rebounds (!!!) and five assists in the last round. Despite Andujar's great performance Cupes lost 82-96 to #1 ranked CDP. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. Cupes had another "accident". It may be a crucial game and cause dropping from the group of top ranked teams. The record is still good, but 1st lost game is hopefully really an accident. Andujar's teammates are also very good. That's why having such high stats is even more impressive. Andujar has a great season in Dominican Republic. After only 4 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.3rpg (7th best) and assists with 5.0apg (7th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Eloy Vargas (211-C-88) of CDP - 18 points and 7 rebounds 5. Juan Guerrero (205-F-93) of GUG - 22 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Jose Rodriguez (201-F-92) of CDP - 24 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists 7. Paris Bass (203-SF-95) of CDP - 20 points and 4 rebounds 8. Juan Miguel Suero (196-F-93) of Cupes - 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists 9. Victor Liz (193-SG-86) of CPN - 22 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists 10. Bernardo Polanco (189-G-94) of CPN - 13 points and 3 rebounds The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
